Head: For those of you who aren?t aware, following an anonymous call to the HSE (the Health and Safety Executive) we have had to remove the marquee that was erected as a space for our students to spend break and lunchtime when the weather becomes inclement. It was NOT removed because it was unsafe, but because we had changed how the marquee was built with glass sides for better light. We were also told that as it was intended for use for an extended time, it might have needed building regulations and we had not asked for this. The specialist company who put up the marquee has over 20 years experience erecting marquees and we would not have accepted their kind offer if we weren?t confident they would be able to provide us with a suitable and safe structure for our students to use.? ? The implication of the removal is that we now cannot provide additional space for wet break or additional study space for our Sixth Formers. This is a huge shame and we are sad not to have been contacted directly to explain.??However, we are reviewing our plans and looking at what else we can do to provide our students with much needed additional spaces.? ? We would however, like to thank the donor for so generously loaning us the marquee and for the many emails we have received supporting us in finding a solution. A true example of our remarkable community pulling together in these strange times.
This week, Sadie Lucas, one of our Year 12s is going to be swimming the channel. Yes, you read that right SWIMMING THE CHANNEL! She?ll be swimming in relay with three friends who swim with her at @chalfontotterssc and she?s raising funds in memory of her bff, Liberty Schurer for @libertys_legacy. Sadly, Liberty died two weeks before her 14th birthday in 2017 after being diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in her leg. Sadie filmed this a few weeks ago, take a few minutes to watch and if you can, donate using the link on the film. #Dare2bRemarkable #remarkablestudents
Introducing Ms Lewis' five month old rescue pup, Barney and our new PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog. The benefit of having a dog like Barney in school are numerous and include increased motivation, decreases in learner anxiety behaviours and they have also helped students with social and emotional learning needs. ? Barney will be with Ms Lewis in D block most days and students are really enjoying spotting him out for a walk at change over times or at break and lunch. We know dogs aren?t everyone?s cup of tea, but students know he will always be with a member of staff and on a lead, and if he is going into a lesson, students will be notified beforehand. Enjoy these pics of Barney now, and some of him when he came in during Lockdown and met Sahar, our Head Girl. #Dare2bRemarkable #barneylovesme
