Food Prep and Nutrition
Food sits within the Creative Arts Faculty. The Creative Arts Faculty intends to deliver a vibrant and dynamic curriculum from Year 7 - 13 which gives students the freedom to explore their creativity, inspires design ideas, whilst equipping them with the skills to continue the subject with confidence at GCSE, A-Level and beyond.
The food room is spacious and features 11 paired workstations which face the front of the room to make teaching the class more productive. Each station is equipped with a hob, oven, sink, cooking equipment and utensils. The food room also features a blast chiller which allows the temperature of food to be brought down safely.
Co-Curricular Enrichment

KS3 (Year 7 – 9)
Food, graphic communication and textiles are taught in a one-term carousel system, where two tutor groups are split into three equal-sized classes and rotate between the three specialisms. Current projects for the year are as follows:
- Year 7 - Bread, doughs and pastries.
- Year 8 - Sauces and Chinese food.
- Year 9 - Proteins with a vegetarian focus and a Teen Canteen study.
GSCE (Year 10 – 11)
GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition develops a greater understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of food materials. Students learn about food from around the world, through the study of British and international culinary traditions, as well as developing an understanding of where food comes from (food provenance) and the challenges surrounding food security. They’ll master culinary skills and appreciate the science behind food and cooking. This is an exciting and creative course which will allow students to demonstrate practical skills and make connections between theory and practice.
