Students enjoy rare opportunity with leading Indian Classical Dance professional
Year 10 students Ishika Bhambri and Gauri Bij were recently (16th November 2017) lucky enough in their personal time to attend a workshop with Pundit Birju Maharaj, a leading exponent of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak (Indian Classical Dance).
A performance they did for Maharajji shortly followed at the Wembley Drum Theatre on 19th November 2017, representing Yuva-Gati (Asian strand of Centre for Advanced Dance Training) in the presence of other acclaimed Kathak fraternity.
This is a very proud moment for both Ishika's and Gauri's parents, as well as the school, as it is a very rare opportunity to be assessed and to perform in the presence of someone who is considered a Kathak legend.
Also, Ishika and Gauri recently took part in their end of year Kaleidoscope Kathak Showcase at the Paul Robeson Theatre to celebrate the progress the girls have made in Kathak.
