Student becomes World Gymnastics Champ!
By Ms McGonigle, Head of PE
Three Beaconsfield High School - Sami Breeze, Lola Gill and Kendra Morris - students have recently gone to Florida to compete in the IAIGC World Gymnastics Championships, representing their club Chiltern Gymnastics.
There were 1,110 gymnasts from all over the world competing in each age group – a hugely competitive field! Lola and Sami both competed on the vault, with Sami performing very well to finish as the second placed British Gymnast in the World Final and Lola taking first!
Lola finished as first place British gymnast and first place over all - she is the World Champion on the vault! She scored 9.25, where the maximum score was 10, and had to nervously wait until the end of the competition when she was crowned champion - worth the wait, we think!
Kendra competed on the floor, vault beam and bars doing incredibly well to reach the finals on two pieces of apparatus, increasing her position in both finals, to finish 7th on the floor with a score of 9.325, and picking up the silver medal on the vault scoring 9.350 – absolutely amazing!
Huge congratulations to all three girls for their achievements and a big thank you to Chiltern Gymnastics Club who continue to do fantastic things for our students.
