It has been an exceptionally busy couple of weeks for sport, hence an update has been missing as we have been so full on. The hockey county rounds have been in full swing along with netball fixtures and a plethora of extra-curricular clubs.
Under 14 Hockey Results
On Wednesday 3rd October the U14 hockey team played in the County Heats against the schools in the South of Buckinghamshire. It was a very tight day with teams all of similar ability and the team really having to dig deep throughout the day. We finished second in our pool and drew Borlase in the semi-final who had not yet conceded a goal in the tournament. In the semi-final we scored and early goal and then managed to hang on to the 1-0 lead for the duration of the game, largely due to some fantastic goal keeping from Jess Benn and last ditch defending from Rosie Thompson and Daisy Ashworth. The semi-final win saw the U14’s get through to the County Finals which were played on Thursday 11th October.
The County Finals were another step up for the U14’s as they took on Great Marlow, Stowe and Akeley Wood. First up they lost 1-0 to Great Marlow in a very close game and then went on to beat Akeley Wood 3-0. This set up a final show down with Stowe – winner takes the spot in the Regionals. It was an end to end game with both teams playing some fantastic hockey and creating some excellent attacking opportunities. With minutes to go we won a short corner but couldn't convert and Stowe broke away scoring down the other end to win the game 1-0. A gutting way for the U14’s to go out but the progress they made throughout the tournament was outstanding and we certainly have high hopes for them for the rest of the season and many years after.
A big well done to all the team – Lily King, Issy Mayhew-Smith, Emily Gallagher, Daisy Ashworth, Emilia WIjsman,Isla Brown, Becky Saunders, Lily Thomas, Polly Muncey, Rosie Thompson, Tilly Crampsie, Xanthe Baker, Eve Scott, Katie Oaten and Jess Benn.
U16 Hockey Results
On Thursday 4th October it was the turn of the U16 hockey team to play in their County Heats hosted on our very special new astroturf. They played in a very close round robin which was fiercely competitive picking up mixed results with some wins, draws and a couple of losses. The team showed excellent team spirit and determination really digging deep when it matter but they could not quite get the final win they needed to put them through to the County Finals. They still had a fantastic tournament and it really highlighted how strong the hockey is in Bucks at the moment. We are very proud of their performance in the tournament and know they have a great rest of the season ahead.
Another big well done to the team – Molly Miller, Kendra Morris, Olivia Leese, Jess Edmonds, Emily Hearne, Izzy Spruzen, Nicole Sykes, Izzy Wijsman, Molly Ayre, Amelia Rae, Hannah Burne, Hana Rasheed, Jemima Burling, Charly Walker and Charlotte Dent.
U18 Hockey Results
Monday 8th October saw the U18’s in action in their County Heats with an impressive 6-1 win over Sir William Borlase, advancing them to the County Finals on Wednesday 10th October which turned out to be positively tropical. On a very hot day in Stowe the U18’s took on Borlase, Stowe and Royal Latin winning 2-0, 1-0 and 6-0 respectively seeling their place in the Regional Heats on Tuesday 6th November. Whilst the results show 3 wins, 9 goals scored and none conceded the day was by no means plain sailing – the team had to leave everything out there on the pitch and fight extremely hard to achieve what they did and we are very proud of them. We are looking forward to the Regional Heats already.
A final big well done to the team- Zoe Kaye, Ami Robinson, Imi Smith, Alicia Fairman, Lavinia Champion, Olivia Broderick, Issy Harris-Evans, Imi Relf, Katie Webb, Katie Jurdon, Maddy Peacock, Katie Sanders, Annabelle Cowan, Eleanor Buckeldee and Ibby Akinseye.
U16 Indoor Hockey Results
The hockey was not quite done there as the U16 indoor hockey team were in action in the Regional Heats on Friday 12th October- with five very strong teams competing for a place in the Regional Finals. The team played some outstanding indoor hockey winning two, losing one and drawing a game to put themselves in a great positon going into the final game. It was another winner takes all scenario with the opposition being St Teresa’s. It was an end to end enthralling game of indoor hockey for the duration but St Teresa’s were just a touch too strong for us as they came out eventual winners. The hard work, commitment and excellent game play demonstrated by our team was fantastic and they will continue to have great success on the indoor hockey pitch.
Congratulations to the team – Charly Walker, Izzy Spruzen, Molly Miller, Olivia Leese, Emily Hearne, Nicole Sykes, Hannah Burne, Hana Rasheed, Tilly Crampsie and Charlotte Dent.
Meanwhile while the hockey was all go the PE department were still ensuring all the other extra-curricular clubs were in full swing as well as netball fixtures happening too. The U12A-D netball teams went away to Wycombe Abbey and had some excellent fixtures really enjoying being part of Team BHS. The U13A team were also in action in the second round of the Sisters in Sport Cup taking on Putney High on Thursday 11th October. They started extremely well taking the early lead but they could not quite hang on as Putney High came back very strongly in the second half as they came away 24-14 winners. Some excellent netball played by both sides and we are very proud of the team.
Please keep up to date with all that goes on in the PE department by following our twitter on @BHSsportdance and our website www.beaconsfieldhighsport.co.uk.
