Review of the Summer Concert
Miss C. Goodall, Head of Music
Thursday 3rd May 2018 saw BHS’s final large scale musical concert of the year, which involved over 150 musicians throughout the school. It was a perfect summer’s evening with the night beginning with drinks in the courtyard and music provided by the fantastic String Quartet (Lindi Fang, Isabelle Brovarnik, Elisabeth Cullen & Elizabeth Corbett).
The concert began at 7pm with some real show-stoppers in the first half provided by First Orchestra, Junior Strings, Flute Choir, Chorale and Junior Advanced Choir. The first half ended with ACE, Lizzie Baldwin and the A-Level dancers performing two songs from The Greatest Showman- a brilliant way to conclude a fantastic first 45 minutes.
After the interval, the audience was treated to Symphony Orchestra playing Schubert’s Overture in the Italian Style followed by performances by Junior Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Senior Strings, Chamber Choir & closing with Wind Band, performing Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Giachinno’s The Incredibles.
It was at this concert that we said goodbye and a huge thank you to our six Leavers who have contributed a huge amount to the Music Department during their time at BHS. Natasha Humphries, Jennifer Pang, Amy Wonnacott, Josie Kucera, Amelia Snoxell & Anna Foo will be hugely missed by all and we wish them all the best for their A-Levels and beyond!
The Summer Concert was a fantastic evening, allowing our talented students to really showcase their musical abilities and a huge thanks goes to our Year 9/10 stage crew, the Bel Canto Committee, Mr Smith & Miss McGonigle for their backstage help and the wonderful Mr Bruce Martin, Mr Dan Dixon, Mrs Victoria Henshall and Mrs Clare Aston for their continued and professional direction of their ensembles.
