Review: Recent Chamber Concerts

Annual BHS Chamber Concert

Monday 19th March 2018 saw BHS’s annual Chamber Concert which, this year, featured Advanced Chamber Ensemble, Chamber Choir and solos from our six Year 13 Leavers.

The evening started brilliantly with drinks and canapés served and prepared by the fantastic Year 10 GCSE Food Technology – a huge thanks to Ms Archer and her team for coordinating this. Whilst the audience were enjoying their aperitifs and canapés, they were treated to music from the String Quartet (Lindi Fang, Isabelle Brovarnik, Lizzy Cullen and Elizabeth Corbett) – what a fine way to begin an evening of music!

All the performances were outstanding with both Chamber Choir and Advanced Chamber Ensemble performing several items in the concert. We also had some brilliant vocal duets from Lizzy Cullen and Isabella Bentham-Clark and Rachie Ing and Lizzie Baldwin. Our six Leavers (Natasha Humphries, Amelia Snoxell, Josie Kucera, Anna Foo, Amy Wonnacott & Jennifer Pang) also took to the stage and each performed a solo, a brilliant way to end their music career here at BHS and also a chance for myself and the audience to thank the six students for all of their time, energy and commitment that they have brought to the music department over the last few years.

I couldn’t not mention the concert’s final number – an arrangement of A Million Dreams and This Is Me, which involved all students – ACE, Chamber Choir AND our four A-Level dance students. Lizzie Baldwin did a fantastic job singing lead vocals and it really was a great opportunity to combine Music and Dance in a brilliant show-stopping finale.

A huge well done and thank you to all the performers and staff who performed that evening. It was a brilliant night which showcased the very high standard of music here at BHS.

Chamber Choir perform at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts

It’s been a busy month for the Chamber Choir students with their third performance taking place on Sunday 25th March at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead. The choir was invited by Gillian Dibden - director of the renowned Taplow Choirs – to perform in a joint concert with Taplow Girls’ Choir and Holyport College Girls’ Chamber Choir.

All three choirs performed a stunning array of choral music with BHS Chamber Choir performing six individual songs and then joining with the other choirs to perform a rousing Circle March and then a beautiful rendition of Bridge over Troubled Water.

It really was a wonderful evening of music and Mrs Henshall and myself were very impressed with our students' professionalism, maturity and confidence both on and off stage. Congratulations to the following students – Amelia Snoxell, Isabella Bentham-Clark, Josie Kucera, Amelia Akhtar, Anna Hooper, Evie Wong, Amy Wonnacott, Lizzie Cullen, Rachie Ing, Lizzie Baldwin,  Emily Cozens, Georgia Edwards, Lucy Alexander & Saakshi Sharma.

See you at our next concert on Thursday 3rd May!
