Chamber choir performs at Festival of Choirs

Chamber Choir took part in the Beaconsfield Festival of Choirs at St Mary’s Church on Saturday 3rd March. Chamber Choir is the school’s most advanced choir, which is auditioned and made up of Year 10-13 students. The Festival comprised of three concerts, each with around six choirs, and we performed in the last concert of the festival. It is a non-competitive choral festival, giving choirs the opportunity to perform as well as listen to other local choirs.

Chamber Choir performed four pieces conducted by Mrs Henshall. Firstly, we sang ‘Jesu Dulcis Memoria’, a Renaissance Motet composed by Tomas Luis de Victoria. This is an extremely complex piece of music, with each part singing something completely different from each other.

Secondly, we sang a modern setting of the ‘Ave Maria’ text by Katy Cooper. We then performed ‘Ubi Caritas’, a piece of music written by the Scandinavian composer Ola Gjeilo. After our rehearsal, a member of one of the other choirs described this piece as sounding “heavenly”.

Lastly, we performed another piece by Katy Cooper- a folk song called ‘Rousay Lullaby’. This is a fun piece to sing, with four-part harmony as well as a round. At the end of the concert, we took part in a performance with the other choirs of “We are one voice”, written by Chris Hutchings for the Festival.

After the concert, we received lots of praise from other choirs as well as members of the audience. It was a wonderful opportunity to be able to sing at the Festival as well as to listen to the other choirs. We would like to thank Mrs Henshall for rehearsing with us every week, and Miss Goodall for joining us at the performance.

For an opportunity to hear chamber Choir, we will be performing at the Chamber Concert on the 19th March (tickets are on Scopay now!), as well as the annual Summer Concert on May 3rd. In July we are also travelling to Barcelona to perform in the Sagrada Familia and Barcelona Cathedral!

The girls performed beautifully on Saturday evening and I was very proud of every single one of them. Thank you for braving the weather and producing a top notch performance!! My huge thanks as well to Mrs Henshall for her continued hard work with the choir, it is hugely appreciated.
