#SpendaPenny 2018 - ongoing
Last academic year we raised almost £15,000 of the £25,000 fundraising target for our school-wide, #SpendaPenny toilet renovation project. This year, we hope you, our community can help us raise the final £10,000.
Take a look at Alice and Eliza’s film below, showing one of the completed and very beautiful blocks at the bottom of the Tower Block:
The toilets in the PE Department, Music Department and at the bottom of the Student Reception stairs have also been renovated, much to the delight of our students:
Help us reach our target!
But, with each completed toilet cubicle costing £4000 (including labour) we still need your help to make the rest of our toilets something to be proud of and not only that, facilities our students are happy to use during the school day. Remember that TES article in May?
....research has found that the equivalent of more than half a million secondary school students have not drunk at school and almost one in 10 have refrained from eating, so that they can avoid using the toilet.
Of the pupils who avoid using school toilets, 52 per cent said this is because the toilets were dirty, while 19 per cent described them as unsafe, 17 per cent as faulty and 12 per cent said they lacked toilet roll or hand wash.
So, help us reach our target by supporting our fundraising initiatives this year (details coming soon!), and why not pop into our virtual bathroom shop and 'buy' a (virtual) tap, sink, soap dispenser and more. All donations made via the link below will go towards the toilet renovation costs - with the help of you, our community WE CAN DO THIS!
#SaveOurAstro 2017 - 18
In September 2018, we celebrated a successful fundraising campaign to replace our aging astro turf.
The astro didn't always look so remarkable...
It wasn't easy, but by undertaking a range of activities and initiatives and coming together as a community we raised the funds and achieved the grant!
A combination of our virtual pitch purchase scheme - Your Patch of Pitch -, our 50th Anniversary Golden Ball, the Festive Fair, student supermarket bag packing, House t-shirts and flags, Burns Night Supper, the newly returned Fun Run, student stalls at Sports Day, our prefect run Y7/8 Summer disco, our Summer Garden Festival and of course our annual Sports & Dance dinner saw us raise more than £60,000!
That total has added to a grant we successfully won, along with school reserves grown from the generous donations of those families who commit to the Academic Development Fund on a monthly basis, to enable us to go ahead with the project and change the sporting futures of our students for many years to come!
Inspiring Sciences 2016 - 17
When our community comes together, we achieve remarkable things. Our University-grade Science laboratories wouldn’t have been built without the commitment of parents, staff, students and local businesses, who all supported our Inspiring Sciences Periodic Table campaign.
We created three labs, each offering the latest equipment and facilities for the advanced study of biology, physics and chemistry, with a dedicated A-Level lab sponsored by emotive. The Headteacher and Science team designed the largest lab with curved stations facing in to a central teaching area, to allow for contemporary, interactive learning, as well as glass boards and breakout areas for focused student forums.
