Y8 student becomes British Champion in gymnastics!

A Year 8 student at Beaconsfield High School is celebrating after becoming a British Champion at the Gymnastics Women’s All Round National Finals in Milton Keynes last Sunday, 29th October 2017.

Sami Breeze, who trains with Chiltern Gymnastics, took the title for her gymnastic asymmetric bars routine at Level 8, beating stiff competition against 32 other gymnasts to take the Gold medal and claim her rightful spot on the podium at the awards ceremony.

Sami is hoping to be selected by Chiltern Gymnastics, which also trains at Beaconsfield High School, to represent the club in an international competition in Florida next June.

Rachel Smith, Headteacher comments: “Like Sami’s parents, we are so incredibly proud of her achievements. It takes real commitment and drive to achieve such a feat at such a young age, and Sami has that in bucket loads. We actively encourage students to challenge themselves, academically but also personally, and Sami continues to do just that.”

Beaconsfield High School’s PE department is exemplary, introducing students to a wide range of sports and encouraging their interests and natural talent. Extensive facilities include a sports hall, gymnasium, fitness centre, netball and tennis courts and an astro pitch. As part of the school’s drive to develop and deliver a remarkable learning environment, the #SaveOurAstro campaign has just been launched to the school and wider community. The school needs to fundraise £100,000 in the next year to replace its aging turf.
